Why Seek Therapy?
Why
Therapy?

Many
of us have often heard this question.
Perhaps we have even asked it.
Why should I seek therapy? What
will it do for me? The first thing I’d
like to say is that by making a sincere effort to answer this question, you are
taking the first step toward living a healthier, more fulfilling life. How so?
Because it brings to light the realities of the need for an un-invested,
third party support system who is working with you, hand in hand, solely in
your interest. Such a partnership is
indispensable at this point in life where you may be feeling unheard, a lack of
support, or not understood. Many times,
it is we who fail to understand ourselves and what we need in moments where our
burdens seem the most difficult to bear.
Indeed, sometimes all we
feel is stuck and frustrated, but those feelings are enough to cause us to lose
focus or feel overwhelmed. Know that
this is a normal reaction to a situation or circumstance through which we
cannot navigate. However, importance
lies in the realization of the necessity and benefits of seeking support.
A
few noteworthy facts to consider:
1).
You always will be the expert on your own self and life. We as counselors are here sincerely to learn
about you so we can partner with you on your journey.
2).
Your choices will always be your own, but we can help you through the process
of making them.
3).
We believe in your abilities and strengths, and we are always very willing to
help you see them if you do not already.
4).
Everyone has the capacity for making the positive changes they wish to see. We have a burning desire to influence that
change by working in direct collaboration with
you.
5).
Therapy is a tool for the betterment of yourself and well-being, for creating
deeper insights into yourself, and for the creation as well as achievement of
important goals. Your counselor is there
for serving your best interests. Helping
you achieve your goals is our goal, and we will be there to cheer you on as you
progress through each phase of the achievement or change process.
6).
You should always be able to find the essence of a mentor in your
therapist. Providing support and
guidance is our passion, please don’t hesitate to ask!
We at Visualize Your Life Counseling would like to commend you
for taking this first and difficult step, and thank you for allowing us the
privilege of working with you. At such a
time, knowing the benefits that await you as a consumer of therapeutic services
and the rights you have in discerning who and what is the best for you will
alleviate much of your anxiety. You have
the right as a consumer to seek out the therapist who you believe will be the
